Jack Holmes Berryman (1921-1999) was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. In December of 1941 Berryman enlisted in the United States Navy (as a Marine) and fought in the Pacific Theater during World War II, seeing action in the Mariana Islands. By 1947 Berryman had earned a B.S. and M.S. in Ecology from the University of Utah. During Berryman's career he worked for the Fish & Wildlife Service and conducted research on animal habitat.
